Praying for our Community, Nation and World
‘I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.’ 1 Timothy 2:1-4
Paul reminds us in his letter to Timothy, to be seeking God in prayer for all people, not just ourselves, our loved ones or church family. Who are the all in your neighbourhood and community who God is longing for someone to pray for?
All people also include those in authority over us. Whatever our political views, we have a Prime Minister carrying an unenviable burden of responsibility during this pandemic, along with MP’s, and of course, scientific and medical advisors. Do remember your own MP too.
There are thousands of people who fall into the all people category, and at such a times as this we are particularly aware of the demands on the NHS and other essential workers whom we can be supporting through prayer. Who else in our nation and world has God burdened your heart to be in prayer for? No one can pray for everyone or everything, but each of us can be faithful with what God has entrusted to our care.
Many organisations offer guidelines which may help us pray during these times. If you are already linked in to one of these, do use their resources to inform and inspire you to persevere and not give up in prayer.
If you would like some pointers, here are just a few which we are happy to recommend for your personal use or with your Connect Groups:
A prayer for those affected by coronavirus from Churches Together: https://www.cte.org.uk/Publisher/File.aspx?ID=246385
A call to prayer from the Baptist Union of Great Britain
A prayer for deliverance from 24-7

‘Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power
and the glory and the majesty and the splendour,
for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.
Wealth and honour come from you;
you are the ruler of all things.
In your hands are strength and power
to exalt and give strength to all.’
1 Chronicles 29:11-12
