Building Information
- theBarn operates in a 1980’s built detached, industrial warehouse accessed directly off Waterloo Road.
- The property is principally a single storey facility with, WCs, kitchen / servery area, integral 2 storey ancillary meeting rooms and first floor mezzanine.
- To the exterior is forecourt parking and good-sized rear car park.
- Gas blower heating and high intensity lighting to the ground floor Main Auditorium area.
- Other rooms and spaces have wall mounted electric space heating and fluorescent ceiling mounted lighting.
- Mobile phone reception is acceptable across the property.
- WiFi is available.
- Assistance dogs, as defined in the Equality Act 2010, are welcome.
- theBarn operates on both floors, with the first floor only accessible via the single staircase located in the front entrance lobby.
- theBarn makes reasonable adjustments to provide access to services and events. However, the physical limitations and design of the building does not provide adequate or safe provision for a stair or through floor lift to access the first floor.
- From time to time, theBarn holds outdoor events on the generally level, grassed area to the left-hand elevation of the building. Access to this area is gained from the forecourt parking area and involves a small transition from the hard to the soft landscaping.
Arrival & Parking Facilities
- The site is accessed by both vehicular and pedestrian traffic off Waterloo Road, through a double-width gated entrance set back from the public footpath.
- There are 4 designated disabled spaces available within the car park and they are within 30m of the Accessible Entrance.
- The main part of the car park has a hard surface; the rear spaces are on a mixture of gravel and chippings. Surfacing of the disabled car parking spaces is concrete.
- For Sunday morning services and other key events, the car parking is managed by a volunteer team.
Main Accessible Side Entrance, Main Auditorium & theHub
- The side main entrance, located on the right hand-elevation of the building, provides a gentle, sloped transition between the external pedestrian and car park area into the building across a lo-cill threshold with manually operated double doors for entry and exit. The opening width is over 1.5m when fully opened
- There is hard flooring in the main circulation areas at the rear of the room, with the seating area covered with close-cropped carpet tiling. Acoustically, there is little sound damping.
- The single doors accessing adjacent rooms and WCs are manually operated. Doors are generally left-hand transfers. Staff & volunteers can assist with door opening.
- theHub, an area at the back of the room, set aside as an information and reception centre has a desk height above 750 mm. Staff & volunteers are available to talk to people away from the desk or at low level, small circular, adjacent tables.
- There is limited natural light and ceiling inset lights in theHub.
- Chairs are available in theHub area, but none have armrests.
- An induction loop is available throughout the Main Auditorium. Optimum reception is to be found toward the centre of the room.
