Equip 1 - Bible Foundations

Posted Friday 28th April 2017

Over the course of this week, we are preview the five workshops being offered as part of Equip. The first of these is Bible Foundations with Dave Charlton.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

The Bible is the Word of God and is the primary method God has chosen to communicate what we need to find Him, know Him and follow Him.  At theBarn we firmly believe that the Bible is the absolute authority on our faith and therefore is fundamental to our lives.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

This course is new Christians and for those who don't understand what the Bible is, where it came from and what it contains.  If you find the Bible confusing or daunting, this course is for you.

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO LEARN?

Session 1: What is the Bible?

The who, what, where, when and how! Composition and genres of literature.

Session 2: Can I trust the Bible?

We believe it through faith, but is this just ‘blind faith’? Is there any evidence that this collection of writings is trustworthy?

Sessions 3 & 4: The Story

A large proportion of our scriptures is narrative. With many different stories, what is the Bible telling us? Session 3 will be Old Testament; session 4 will be New Testament.

Session 5: Our relationship with the Bible

How should we use it? What is studying the Bible? Isn't study a job for pastors and scholars? What is my response?

Session 6: Tools

What tools are available to help me read and study the Bible?  Some suggested free tools and an overview of how to use them.

COURSE LEADER: Dave Charlton
