This Saturday, Dec 1st, we are hosting a Makaton Training Day, here at theBarn.
Makaton helps people to communicate using speech, signs or symbols. The signs are from the British Sign Language for the deaf, and the symbols, which help literacy difficulties, have been chiefly developed by The Makaton Charity.
Through Prospects, a Christian Charity with a mission to people with learning disabilities, the Makaton charity is offering training for everyone who would benefit from using signs and symbols to enhance communicating, learning about Jesus and worship with song and prayer. This Saturday, you'll learn a small vocabulary of signs which can be used in daily living and a few specialized Christian signs and symbols.
There is a charge of £12 if you come as an individual, reduced to £10 for each person if two people book together, one person with a learning disability and/or under 16 years and one person accompanying (either parent, carer, friend, leader/helper of Prospects Ministry Group).
The participants attending this training day will be given a manual containing the relevant information on Makaton, a selection of relevant Makaton signs, and a selection of songs published by Prospects utilising Makaton line drawings, Makaton symbols and text.
